From Farm to Fork Poultry Management in the 21 st Century

On Nov. 13, 2013, 2013 Sino-US Poultry Industry Forum was held in Beijing by China Animal Agriculture Association together with American Soybean Association. Participants made in-depth discussions on global poultry industry development trend and food security issues. Michael T. Scuse, Vice Minister of USDA, Wang Zongli, Chief of Animal Husbandry Department of MOA, Ge Zhirong, President of China Entry&Exit Inspection and Quarantine Association, He Xintian, Secretary-General of China Animal Agriculture Association and other 200 government officials, association practitioners and enterprises representatives attended the forum. Secretary-General He pointed out that the full participation of the official leaders from both governments fully demonstrated that the two attached great importance to poultry development and trade in both countries.

Gong Guifen, Vice Secretary-General of CAAA made a report on the forum. She introduced to the participants the current development and trade situation of China poultry industry. She stated that while China is the main importers of American poultry products, no Chinese poultry products exported to America . The poultry trade between the two countries can, nowhere else, be regarded as bilateral trade. She called on the American side to show concern to the unbalanced trade, and help to export Chinese poultry products to America .

Yin Chengwen, Deputy Secretary-General of CAAA made a concluding remark and shared his participating experience of this forum. He noted that food security is a global issue as well as a relative concept. For the relativeness, it implies two levels of understanding. First, along with the increasing requirement from the mass, people's desire for security become higher. Thus, the agriculture people are urged to make unremitting efforts to fight against food contamination. Second, standard are different in different countries, we can not take one company's food scandal as a take-for-granted and sweeping industry phenomena and deny China 's productive and managerial competence. China 's poultry products have already exported to scores of countries and regions, including Japan and EU. Thus, he expressed his hope that the icebreaking bilateral trade could come true earlier.

Interactive Q&A on hot issues is also set during the forum. The atmosphere was very warm with great participation and enthusiasms of the attendees.
