Development of China beef cattle industry
China is a large beef producing country in the world, in
2006, the total amount of beef cattle in-stock has reached 125.81 million head, the total slaughter number is 56.029 million head, the total beef production is 7.1728 million ton, it increases 261.58% compared with year 1996 and ranks the third in the world. Meanwhile, the per capita consumption of beef in China is growing rapidly, 6.6kg by 2005, increases 89.4% compared with year 1995, and the annual average growth rate is 7%.
Four major beef cattle industry regions in China: central plains (Henan, Hebei, Shandong, Anhui), northeast (Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang), northwest (Shanxi, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Gansu, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia), southwest (Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Guangxi), the beef output in these areas make up 94% of the total national beef output.
Five local high grade beef cattle breed in China: Luxi scalper, Qinchuan cattle, Nanyang cattle, Jinnan cattle, Yanbian cattle. Beef cattle breed from abroad are Simmental, Charolais, Limousin, Piedmont, Angus, nowadays, most of the commercial cattle are domestic and foreign hybridizing cattle.
In recent 5 years, a lot of beef cattle enterprises with strong financial support-systems and excellent product quality well up and form the modern integration beef cattle industry group. Including: Beijing Yuxiangyuan holdings Ltd., Dalian Xuelong Co., Ltd., Inner Mongolia Horqin cattle industry Co., Ltd., Shandong Yangxin Yili halal meat Co., Ltd., Shaanxi Qinbao Co., Ltd. and so on, these enterprises import foreign advanced slaughtering and dividing equipments, with perfect carcass segmentation standards and traceability system of food quality safety, are nonesuch in China beef cattle industry.
